The Preservation and Exhibition of the Intangible Heritage in Museums

In the last few decades safeguarding intangible heritage is the protection of cultural identities and the cultural diversity of humankind, It has become one of the priorities of UNESCO and ICOM in the cultural domain and one of the major challenges facing the construction of local, regional and national identities, which provides communities with a sense of identity and continuity. The concept of intangible heritage has recently become new topic for discussion within the international museum community on the role of museums in safeguarding, preserving intangible heritage, which promotes respect for cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue.
The purpose of this dissertation is to explores the significance of safeguarding intangible heritage and examine how can Museums work on implementing UNESCO 2003 Convention and ICOM Seoul declaration 2004. Discuss the role of museums in preservation , documentation, promotion, and exhibition intangible heritage as a living culture. This thesis discussed integration of tangible and intangible heritage in museums and discussed community participation with museums to represent and preserve their living heritage for the future generations. Finally, examine the role of Egyptian museums towards preserve and exhibit intangible heritage.
