Bittersweet

It was on this day

that I nearly took my last breath

it was on this day

that my view on life was forever altered

it was on this day

that a moment in time was forever marked

with the scars it would bring

and the memories it would hold

it was on this day

that I almost never laughed

never smiled

never saw the faces of the ones I love most

and never felt the promise of another morning again

but

it was on this day that I fought

it was on this day that I refused to give up

and refused to let death win

it was on this day that I experienced the strength of God's grace

and the power I held deep inside

it was on this day

that I was granted another chance

to live.
