Stand and Deliver

Sir Roger de Coverley falls madly in love with widow Lady Kate and consummates his love in highly unusual circumstances. Kate hides the resulting pregnancy from Sir Roger, claiming her infant to be the child of a distant relative. Sir Roger accepts her story, adopting his own daughter. Catherine grows into a beautiful, headstrong young woman intent on a life of independence but as a young lady of quality, she must marry. Uninterested in the respectable suitors who call on her, she falls instead for the handsome highwayman Dick Terpin. Together, they indulge in robbery with only a little violence. But one attack on a certain Sir Bertram Delaney has dire consequences. Enraged, he kidnaps Kate and spirits her to France. Dick comes to the rescue. Could marriage to Dick be Catherine's solution?
